The Icahn Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences offers leading-edge Master’s, PhD, dual-degree and non-degree programs in basic science, clinical research, public health, health care delivery, and genetic counseling, in addition to postdoctoral training opportunities. We are agilely positioned within the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS), and the expansive Mount Sinai Health System, in one of the most diverse and vibrant cities in the world, New York City, an international hub of biomedical innovation and industry. We're excited to welcome participants to SINAI4US 2026: Research Symposium and PhD Application Support, hosted by the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai!

This two-day virtual symposium offers aspiring scholars the opportunity to explore biomedical research, learn about graduate programs, engage with faculty and students, and gain valuable insights into the PhD application process.

What makes a graduate program feel like home? For Gauri Saxena and Hamza Ahmed, it’s the people.

Gauri, a second-year PhD student in Health Science Engineering, and Hamza, a third-year MD-PhD student, reflect on the open and inclusive community they found at Mount Sinai and the people who have helped them grow along the way.

For Gauri, the next chapter is about deepening her curiosity and growing as a scientist. For Hamza, it’s about experiencing the connection between research and patient care and seeing physician-scientists bring discoveries from bench to bedside.

We’re expanding opportunities for our graduate students around the world!

With the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) in Germany, we have launched a new international graduate student exchange program partnered with our Masters in Biomedical Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, focused on digital health and artificial intelligence.

Through the program, students will have the opportunity to study and conduct research across institutions, building new connections and gaining international experience at the intersection of biomedical science, technology, and healthcare.

Lauren Lazaro already knew what made Mount Sinai special to her. After working here for a year, she had seen firsthand the breadth of research and the collaboration among faculty and clinicians, inspiring her to continue her journey here as a PhD student.

Now a first-year student in the Clinical Research program, Lauren is building on her experience as a biostatistician with the Institute for Translational Epidemiology, where she works on genomic research focused on the molecular characteristics of disease.

As she begins this next chapter, Lauren looks forward to expanding her skill set, learning from the Mount Sinai community, and discovering something new every day.
