You've probably seen this "Top 20 Best Colleges for Performing Arts" list floating around (ranked by Niche, 2026). It's a great list to know about — but it's not a realistic college list for most students, and we think parents and students deserve to see why before they build their whole senior year around it.
We put together the real acceptance rates, SAT/ACT ranges, and average GPAs for all 20 schools. Several of them admit under 10% of applicants university-wide — and that's before a single audition. A few (Juilliard, UNCSA's Drama BFA, Carnegie Mellon's School of Drama) are true conservatories where the acceptance rate for the actual performing arts program is in the low single digits.

This isn't to discourage anyone — it's to make sure your list has real Reach, Target, and Safety schools on it, not just prestige.

That's exactly what PerformrGO was built for: a free matching quiz that curates a performing arts college list around your real academic profile and artistry, not a magazine ranking. Free to join — link below.
