This morning, we gathered in Newark for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, where hundreds came together in love, strength, and unity. We walked for the women who inspire us every day… the survivors, thrivers, caregivers, and those we hold in our hearts 💞

From the RU-N Bold Women’s Leadership Network and Honors College to the Rutgers University Police Department, Facilities, and so many more; we all showed up.

❤️🤍 It was an emotional day filled with gratitude and joy because there’s no greater feeling than unity grounded in love from your chosen family.

In her first year, Chancellor Smith-Jackson has championed student success, strengthened our connections with the Newark community and advanced a bold vision for our university's future.

🏆 From building on our national reputation for social mobility and expanding student support to advancing the RU–N Roadmap and setting her sights on achieving R1 research status, her vision is focused on creating even greater opportunities for our students and the communities we serve.

Join Chancellor Tonya Smith-Jackson on Friday, October 23, for the inaugural Chancellor’s STAR Night, our signature philanthropic event kicking off Homecoming Weekend 2026.

🏆 Rutgers University–Newark has been named an "Institution of the Year" by The EDU Ledger as part of its inaugural IMPACT Awards!

Rutgers–Newark ranked second among just six institutions nationwide and was the only institution in New Jersey and the Northeast to receive the recognition, honoring measurable impact in student success, research, access, social mobility and institutional transformation.

“What makes this recognition especially meaningful is that it reflects the results we see across every part of our mission,” said Chancellor Tonya Smith-Jackson. “Rutgers-Newark is proving that academic excellence, groundbreaking research, and student success go hand in hand.”

📈 The recognition follows another recent achievement for RU–N: being ranked #1 in New Jersey and #6 in the nation for Social Mobility by U.S. News & World Report.

📣📰 Rutgers University–Newark welcomes Dr. Deidra Hill as our inaugural Vice Chancellor for Marketing and Communications!

With more than 25 years of communications leadership experience in higher education, Hill joins RU–N from Howard University, where she serves as director of advancement communications and built and led a new communications unit supporting fundraising and alumni engagement.

“Rutgers-Newark’s mission of educational access, social mobility, research excellence, opportunity and public impact is well aligned with Dr. Hill’s accomplishments and values,” said Chancellor Tonya Smith-Jackson.

Hill officially joins the Rutgers–Newark community on Oct. 13. Welcome to the , Dr. Hill!
