DENIN supports cutting-edge research relevant to critical environmental issues facing the state of Delaware and the nation — climate change, sea-level rise, habitat loss and degradation, pollution, nutrient cycling, and water quality — generating new knowledge to underpin sound environmental policies for the future. Our research efforts are especially focused on two broad areas: 1) environmental p
rocesses at the land-air-water interfaces collectively referred to as the Critical Zone, and 2) environmental forecasting and remediation. The institute fosters a culture of scholarship that leverages the combined talents of our affiliated faculty and adds value to environmental research, education, and outreach efforts through collaborative working groups, joint proposal development, and synergistic resource coordination. Our vision is to develop an internationally recognized community of faculty, staff, and students in environmental science, engineering and policy, supported by state-of-the-art facilities and an effective management process, who can compete successfully for interdisciplinary grants, provide research-based educational opportunities, promote economic development, and contribute to the environmental health of the state, the region, and the world.
