Rutgers Newark Physics Club

Rutgers Newark Physics Club This is the Rutgers Newark Physics Club. We will be discussing topics in physics as well as have some fun activities.

Hello,

This year, we want to make some changes to the Physics Club. We will have less frequent meetings since I know most people have work or other commitments.

I want to have the first meeting on Wednesday, November 15 during free period at 2:30pm. The location will be announced later.

If you are a Physics or Applied Physics major, please try to come to the meeting on Wed. Nov 15. We will make important announcements.

Below is a link to a Google Form, please respond to it by Tuesday November 7th. You will need to log in to your Rutgers account to respond.

Create a new survey on your own or with others at the same time. Choose from a variety of survey types and analyze results in Google Forms. Free from Google.

Hello everyone,

This week’s meeting is going to be very important so please try to attend. Dr. Murnick will be meeting with us to talk about the new plans the Physics Department has.

We will meet in the Physics Conference Room on Wednesday Feb. 8th at 2:30pm during free period. Again, pizza and refreshments will be provided.

See you then,
Alan

As a reminder, the 18th Annual Rutgers-Newark Internship & Summer Jobs Fair is on Wednesday. Instead of a regular club meeting, we will meet at the fair. The fair starts before free period, so if you do not have class, feel free to head there first and we will meet you there later. Remember to dress nicely and bring copies of your resume. Information about the fair is below:

Hi everyone,

Welcome back! I hope everyone enjoyed the break.

This semester we have some great things planned. Several people have asked about joining the Society of Physics Students (SPS) and Sigma Pi Sigma. Joining the Physics Club will be the first step in joining these organizations. We will also have some events and projects for the semester. Everything will be explained at the first meeting this week.

The first meeting will be one Wednesday January 18, 2017 at 2:30pm in the Physics Conference Room (SMT 206). Pizza and drinks will be provided

10/18/2016

We will meet this Wednesday, October 19th, during free period at 2:30PM. We will meet in SMT 360. Dr. Murnick will be having his graduate research coordinator, Mark DeGuzman, give us a tour of his lab and an overview of the experiments he is working on. He may also show us a demonstration too.

10/02/2016

On Monday October 3rd, there will be a physics seminar held at NJIT in the ECE building, room 202. It is from 11:45am-12:45pm, with tea time beginning at 11:30am. Please come if you are interested!

The guest speaker is Prof. Su-Huai Wei from Beijing Computational Science Research Center, China.

Abstract:
Materials design using first-principles techniques is one of the ultimate goals in computational materials science. Recent advances in first-principles electronic structure theory and computing power has enabled us to perform knowledge-based computational design of materials with unique optical, electrical, magnetic, and/or thermal properties that are tuned to specific energy related applications. This approach has now become a vital tool in accelerating scientific discovery of energy materials. In this talk, selective topics from my group’s recent studies will be discussed to illustrate how computational methods can be used to understand and design functional energy materials, including earth-abundant PV absorber materials; materials for H2 production through photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting; energy storage materials; and materials for solid state lighting.
