For University of Delaware Class of 2026 graduate Joey Spagnolo, joy comes from building community and showing up authentically for his students. 🍎

Spagnolo earned dual degrees in English education and women and gender studies, and completed his student teaching placement at William Penn High School during his time as an undergraduate student at UD.

He’ll take the lessons learned in his classroom with him as he continues pursuing the joy of teaching as a graduate student at Teachers College - Columbia University.

Congratulations to Cathy Wu, the Unidel Edward G. Jefferson Chair in Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Delaware, on being elected a 2025 Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Wu was recognized for her distinguished contributions to bioinformatics data science, including the use of computational biology and natural language processing for protein annotation and knowledge discovery in biomedicine. She is a professor in UD’s Department of Computer and Information Sciences with an affiliated appointment in the Department of Biological Sciences.

Nivedita Prabhu is the 2026 recipient of the Alexander J. Taylor Sr. Award for Outstanding Seniors. The University of Delaware Alumni Association (UDAA) presents this award each year to recognize seniors who demonstrate academic excellence and a commitment to service.

Graduating this week with honors degrees in biochemistry and political science, Nivedita has embraced the challenge of linking scientific discovery with public policy.

She is also this year's keynote speaker at the CAS Natural Sciences and Social Sciences Convocation ceremonies, taking place Thursday, May 21.
