Congratulations to Junior Fashion Design and Product Innovation major Monica Grace! Monica won 3rd place in the National AATCC competition for her “Golden Girl” collection! Monica writes:

“My collection is designed for nursing home residents who want to get around and be out with friends and family, but their clothing is limited. I surveyed the residents at the nursing home I worked at and asked what they would like to see in their clothing or what struggles they have with their garments. With that in mind, I came up with a collection that had their accessibility concerns in mind while also keeping it fashionable so that they have more confidence to go out more”

So proud of our students!!

Aeros design was a tribute to her grandmother. She cut out all the flowers on the back of the shirt from a shirt worn by her grandmother!

University of Delaware fashion and apparel studies graduate student Casey Tyler and assistant professor Adriana Gorea are bringing a modern approach to the ancient tradition of belly binding, a postpartum practice designed to support women’s bodies after childbirth. 💡🧵

Developed in UD’s Wearable Innovation Lab and created using the department’s Shima Seiki knitting machine, the new garment reduces the time and assistance traditionally needed to apply the textile.

Our Fashion and Apparel Studies program at UD is committed to connecting the classroom to careers. Through our partnership with the Washington International Trade Association (WITA), the 2026 WITA Academy brought leading voices into the classroom, including executives from the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA), Tapestry Inc., American Textile Company, and United States Fashion Industry Association (USFIA), and more. Students gained firsthand insights into exciting fashion apparel careers in trade, sourcing, supply chain management, compliance, and sustainability, along with practical advice from industry and policy leaders. Shoutout to Zoe Miller, our own fashion merchandising and management senior, for capturing the experience! Grateful to our partners at WITA and all the speakers who continue to inspire the next generation of professionals.
