Prof. Nektarios Tsoutsos received a National Science Foundation CAREER award to develop new ways to protect data! 🎖 🎉

Prof. Tsoutsos' CAREER award will also help support several educational activities including coordinating in-person cybersecurity-themed outreach events including summer camps and competitions for underserved communities. Building off the success of events like the Embedded Security Challenge and Capture the Flag events, these activities will be further strengthened by UD’s tight-knit community of cybersecurity faculty, staff and students.

Congratulations Dun Mao on a succesful Ph.D. Defense!

Dun worked on a few topics related to silicon optoelectronic devices. Silicon photonics technology has tremendous applications for optical transceivers in data centers, and also has great potential for future optical communication in outer space. There are demands for high speed optoelectronic devices. And how reliable the silicon devices could be after staying in the space environment is unknown. He combined some low-dimensional materials with silicon to demonstrate high speed optoelectronic devices. Also he evaluated the performance reliability of silicon devices against space radiation effects. Dun is advised by Prof. Tingyi Gu.

Congratulations Ellen Gupta on a sucessful Ph.D. Defense!

Ellen's research explores hybrid manufacturing methods, focusing on additive manufacturing (AM), to develop complex electromagnetic systems. Hybrid AM shows promising results in bridging different manufacturing techniques due to AM’s flexibility with materials and scalability that pair well with other manufacturing approaches. AM is utilized in this research, which focuses on the design and development of integrated RF and photonic devices and surveys the reality of using hybrid manufacturing techniques. Ellen is advised by Prof. Mark Mirotznik

Save the Date! ECE Distinguished Lecture Series Presented in collaboration with the UD Biden School of Public Policy and Administration, Wednesday, April 19 3:30pm Mitchell Hall

Dr. Tanya Das, Senior Associate Director of Energy Innovation at the Bipartisan Policy Center

In 2011, Tanya graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering and little awareness of American politics. A decade later, after getting her PhD in ECE and working on energy policy in the U.S. Congress, she found herself appointed by President Biden to lead the implementatio of his Administration’s agenda at the Office of Science, the $7 billion basic science arm of the U.S. Department of Energy. She now works at a nonprofit think tank called the Bipartisan Policy Center, helping to influence federal energy and climate policy to advance the interest of both political parties in the spirit of “the Delaware Way”. In this talk she will share her views on what science policy means, the roles of different organizations in the federal policy ecosystem, and our nation’s progress towards addressing climate change.
