Women’s History Month Spotlight:
Dr. Wangari Maathai 🌍🌿
This week, our Women With STEAM series honors Dr. Wangari Maathai, a trailblazer in environmental activism and the first female professor in Kenya. As the first African woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, her legacy lives on through the Green Belt Movement, which has planted over 51 million trees in Kenya since 1977. 🌱✨
Dr. Maathai’s work reminds us that science, activism, and community action can create lasting change. Despite facing resistance in chilly climates—both in academia and activism—she never backed down, proving that perseverance can break barriers just like trees can break through even the toughest soil. Today, her efforts continue to combat climate change, showing us that one person’s vision can grow into a movement that transforms the world.
How will you use your passion for STEAM to make an impact?
Stay tuned every Wednesday this month as we continue to highlight inspiring women in STEAM!
