Today, two outstanding nursing students were commissioned as officers in the United States Air Force — Second Lieutenant Morgan Stryker and Second Lieutenant Meghan Tekelenburg. They join an elite group of approximately 3,000 active-duty nurses currently serving around the world. Pictured with SON faculty member Jennifer Korkosz, Lt Col (ret), USAF, NC.
Additionally, 2Lt Meghan Tekelenburg was presented with the prestigious 2Lt Matthew S. Bowers Memorial Award, recognizing her outstanding military scholarship, active participation in education-related activities, and qualities of teamwork, leadership, and dedication. The memorial award and scholarship are dedicated to the legacy of 2nd Lt. Matthew Bowers, a 1987 civil engineering graduate and UD ROTC cadet who tragically passed away shortly after being commissioned.

Congratulations to Dr. Zachary Gurock on earning his EdD!

His dissertation, The Art of Justice: Theatre Interventions in Social Justice Training in Higher Education, was aimed at understanding how faculty and staff members in higher education institutions interact with trainings focused on social justice and the ways in which role-play can be used in skill acquisition in that context. He also conducted a counternarrative study focused on the experiences of faculty and staff members who identify as women of color, helping to illustrate the complicated ways in which inequities function and are experienced in complex organizations.

Moving forward, he hopes to widen the audience for these trainings at UD and pursue a grant to design a similar program for bullying prevention in Delaware’s K–12 schools.
