Congratulations to our newest University of Delaware grads who were honored during last night’s Lerner College Graduate Program Convocation in the Bob Carpenter Center! 🎓💙💛

Lerner Dean Oliver Yao and Jack Beeson, who earned his Executive MBA from UD in 1998 and is the retired senior vice president and former head of global capital markets at Wilmington Trust Company, each delivered remarks. At just 18 years old, finance major Antonia Vázquez is UD’s youngest Class of 2026 graduate. Vázquez, who will be graduating with a 4.0 GPA, has completed multiple research projects, was a McNair Scholar and will return to UD in the fall to pursue her master’s as part of the 4+1 program.

Management Professor Beth Schinoff recently conducted a study of 66 workers in chronic pain and how they attempted to manage that pain at work. Her analysis, published in the Academy of Management Journal, found that as workers’ pain interfered with their work, they attempted to pass as ideal-worker-bodied. However, that ultimately increased their pain, catapulting them into a vicious cycle.

This spring’s Siegfried Youth Leadership Program event, a collaboration among SYLP, UD’s CEEE and Horn Entrepreneurship, and Junior Achievement of Delaware, featured breakout sessions, keynote speaker Nicki Joiner and networking with fellow students. Delaware students in grades 8-12 practiced decision-making in real time, while being encouraged to think bigger about their futures and make meaningful choices.

Exciting news for Lerner College!

The University of Delaware is launching the Neil Book School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship within the University of Delaware Lerner College of Business & Economics marking a major investment in innovation-driven education and experiential learning. Made possible through a landmark gift from alumnus Neil Book and his wife, Sharon, the new school will build on the nationally recognized foundation established by University of Delaware Horn Entrepreneurship while expanding opportunities for students across the University.⁠

Launching July 1, 2026, the Book School will support venture creation, interdisciplinary collaboration, mentorship, funding opportunities and hands-on experiences designed to prepare students to lead in a rapidly changing economy.⁠

management professors Katalin Takacs-Haynes, Kyle Emich and Kurt Norder conducted the most comprehensive scholarly review of greed to date in a paper published in the Academy of Management Annals. Analyzing more than 500 academic studies across 10 research communities, they reached the conclusion that greed is neither good nor sustainable.
