Bucks County Community College Library hosted a free Family History Event Meet & Greet, featuring genealogy and history experts from 16 local organizations last week as part of Family History Month. The School of Visual & Performing Arts hosted more than 50 students from area high schools as part of Arts Major for a Day on October 13. Visiting students had a chance to drop in on classes, ranging from Drawing and Studio Lighting to Ceramics and Musicianship to Dance and Graphic Design. Our very own “Dancing with the Stars Next Pro” Allen Genkin returned to campus yesterday! 🌟

The professional dancer and Bucks alumnus returned to the Newtown Campus to hold a Q&A session and a masterclass for students in the Zlock Performing Arts Center. Allen most recently appeared on “Dancing with the Stars Next Pro” and is scheduled to appear on the main show this fall.

Bucks County Community College was excited to host WHYY News’ Bridging Blocks yesterday. The free community engagement initiative is designed to bring people together and foster thoughtful civic dialogue. From artificial intelligence and climate change, to the economy, and polarization and division, students in David Venditto and Joe Shakely’s COMP 110 and COMP 110 Honors courses had the opportunity to discuss in small groups and share with the larger group what they felt were major issues that leaders should address. They also shared their perspectives on timely topics during a lightning round debate.

As part of Family History Month, Bucks County Community College is offering opportunities for community members to explore their family roots. 📖🔍🌳

Earlier this week, BCCC Library’s Kelly Deeny led Discover Your Ancestors Through the Bucks County Community College Library. During the session, Kelly shared the variety of family history-related resources available through the Library. Kelly, who shared her own family history, welcomed her parents, Kevin and Marcia, to campus.

The month continues, when the Bucks County Community College Library hosts a free Family History Event Meet & Greet on Thursday, October 15, from noon to 2 p.m. on the Newtown Campus. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about local family history resources available and meet representatives from local genealogical societies, historical associations, and museums in Bucks County. The evening featured readings by award-winning poets Jeanne Marie Beaumont, Julie Standig, and Tom Mallouk, followed by book signings and a reception in the Orangery on our Newtown Campus.
