Check out the latest Schroeder Hall Gallery exhibit, “A Message to the Community” next time you pass through the Schroeder Hall 2nd floor! We’re thrilled to showcase these bold messages of community and civic engagement for the 2026-2027 school year.
Curated by Katie Krcmarik, associate professor in the Wonsook Kim School of Art and Design, “A Message to the Community” brings together letterpress prints created by students enrolled in Graphic Design History over the past four years. At the center of the exhibition is community: words composed, set, inked, and pressed by students as deliberate messages addressed to their communities. Rather than treating letterpress solely as a historical technique, these prints celebrate it as a living medium for communication, reflection, and civic engagement.
Together, the works in “A Message to the Community” highlight letterpress printing as a form of expression rooted in care, intention, and connection. The physical act of setting type and printing by hand slows communication down, emphasizing presence, labor, and authorship in a way that digital media often obscures. Each impression becomes a record of both thought and touch, linking the maker to the reader through shared space and language.
Join us for our new exhibit opening reception on September 17th at 4 pm! This event is open to all, and light refreshments will be served. Attendees will also have the opportunity to create their own free, custom letterpress prints!
