Dear OU Community,

Navigating today’s changing job market requires more than just academic preparation—building strong professional networks, mastering communication skills, and gaining industry insights are essential to bridging the gap between college and a rewarding career.

We are excited to announce that applications are now officially open for the Sooner Mentors Program for the upcoming academic year!

Sooner Mentors pairs students with experienced professionals, alumni, and community leaders to foster meaningful professional relationships. We carefully match pairs based on shared industry interests, affinity groups, and hobbies.

How to Get Involved
For Students (Mentees):

Application Period: Open now through the end of September.
Required Orientation: All prospective student mentees must attend one short orientation session in the Oklahoma Memorial Union:
Option 1: September 30 | 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM (RSVP on Handshake)
Option 2: October 1 | 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM (RSVP on Handshake)
For Alumni (Mentors):

Application Period: Open through the end of September.

Commitment: Connect with your paired student at least once a month (via Zoom, phone, or in person) from October through April.

Program Timeline at a Glance
Applications Close: End of September
Matching Process: Begins early October
Program Duration: October – April (includes a mid-year check-in and end-of-year evaluation)

Congratulations to Dr. Patrick Ho Lam Lai, Assistant Professor in the Anne and Henry Zarrow School of Social Work, on receiving a National Science Foundation (NSF) ART: InTRO Scoping Translational Research Project Award!

This interdisciplinary project, AI-Supported Telehealth Simulation for Behavioral Health Workforce Training in Oklahoma, brings together experts from the OU School of Computer Science, the Hudson College of Public Health, and the Anne and Henry Zarrow School of Social Work.

The research will explore how AI-supported simulation can enhance telehealth training for social work students and behavioral health professionals, helping strengthen Oklahoma's behavioral health workforce and improve readiness for the future of care.

Congratulations to Dr. Lai and the entire research team on this exciting achievement!
