A drone flying 10,000 feet above Oklahoma could help us better understand what’s happening before severe weather strikes.

A team of University of Oklahoma researchers are the first in the nation authorized by the FAA to fly weather-sensing drones up to 10,000 feet above ground level, which doubles their previous limit.

That altitude provides researchers access to parts of the lower atmosphere where important features that drive high-impact weather begin to take shape.

Fulbright students spend a year abroad teaching English, pursuing graduate study or conducting research. These students are among approximately 2,200 selected for this prestigious honor each year across the U.S.

Lauren Morris, of Bristow, is receiving a Gilman scholarship to study at the OU Study Center in Arezzo, Italy this summer.
