NEWS: Kathy Pegion, Associate Professor and Williams Chair in the College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences, and Somik Ghosh, Professor and Construction Science Professional Advisory Board Professor in the Gibbs College of Architecture, have been named 2026 OVPRP Faculty Fellows.

Over the next year, they will build upon and enhance OVPRP's existing programs, resources and activities that support OU faculty in their scholarly research and creative activities.

Pegion holds the Williams Endowed Chair in the School of Meteorology, has published more than 57 peer-reviewed papers and has received more than $9 million in research funding from organizations including NOAA, NASA, DOE and NSF.

Ghosh has secured funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy and the National Housing Endowment. He also mentors graduate students in construction science and is a past chair of The University of Oklahoma Research Council.

A drone flying 10,000 feet above Oklahoma could help us better understand what’s happening before severe weather strikes.

A team of University of Oklahoma researchers are the first in the nation authorized by the FAA to fly weather-sensing drones up to 10,000 feet above ground level, which doubles their previous limit.

That altitude provides researchers access to parts of the lower atmosphere where important features that drive high-impact weather begin to take shape.

Miniature brain models grown from human stem cells could help reshape how researchers search for new obesity treatments.

OU College of Medicine associate professor Huxing Cui, Ph.D., who serves as associate director of neurometabolic research at the OU Health Harold Hamm Diabetes Center, is part of an international team using these models to test thousands of potential drug compounds and identify those that act on a key regulator of appetite and body weight.

The $12 million, 6-year project brings together researchers from The University of Oklahoma, University of Copenhagen and Yale University with a goal of addressing a major challenge in drug discovery: treatments that show promise in traditional models don't always translate to people.

For Cui, the project builds on years of research into the biology behind appetite and body weight, creating a new path for turning that knowledge into potential treatments.

NEWS: Dr. Muhammad Furqan, Associate Director of Clinical Research at OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center, is leading a national clinical trial to answer an important question: Can immunotherapy reduce the risk of recurrence for patients with stage I non-small cell lung cancer?

If successful, the study could establish the first postoperative treatment for these patients and reshape the standard of care nationwide.
