Alumni Spotlight: Amber Rowe 💐

For nearly two decades, Amber Rowe has built a successful career at Teleflora, where she currently manages two divisions, the International Division and the Flower Buyer Division. With her work weeks usually encompassing from 45 to 60 hours, and family responsibilities, Amber knew that PACS was one of the only ways she could go back to school.

After years of putting her education on hold, she decided in 2024 that it was time to return to the classroom. Her husband, who works for the University of Oklahoma, had introduced her to the idea of PACS and getting an online degree. Both deciding to return to school, Amber enrolled in the Business Administration program, building upon years of leadership experience.

For the final installment of our mini testimonial series, we get to hear from Jordan Diedrich about their experience with the Economic Development Institute! ☝️

"I wanted to share how my experience at OU EDI has impacted me both professionally and personally.

As an economic development professional, EDI gave me not only the technical tools to better understand site selection, business retention, workforce strategies, and financing mechanisms, but also the confidence to step into leadership roles with a broader vision. The program deepened my ability to bring communities, businesses, and public officials together in meaningful ways.

On a personal level, the connections I built through EDI have been just as valuable as the coursework. Learning alongside peers from across the country opened my eyes to new perspectives and best practices, and the friendships formed continue to inspire me.

I credit OU EDI with sharpening my leadership skills and preparing me to take on larger challenges in both local government and regional development. It has been a turning point in my career and a resource I regularly draw upon in my work.
Thank you for the opportunity to be part of this program."

We are back with another testimonial about the Economic Development Institute – this time from Dr. Justin Arnold. 🗣️

"I am the director of a local workforce development board. I went to EDI to think about how to better collaborate with economic development entities in local government, EDCs, and chambers. When I came back, I made a committee whose members were economic development professionals from each county in my local workforce area. We did some planning around increasing the visibility and usage of federal and state workforce investments, then I had my staff host and facilitate local information sessions in each county. At those information sessions, we talked about the local economy, economic development opportunities, and how those opportunities could be supported by workforce development investments. The outcome was new partnerships and we tripled the number of visitors to four county offices.

The leadership skills promoted by EDI were helpful as I worked to align economic development with workforce development, and bring communities together under shared goals."

Stacey L. Davis shared her experience with the Economic Development Institute with us, and we wanted to share that with you! 🌟

“When I enrolled in OU EDI, I was looking for practical ways to move our community from good ideas to real outcomes. EDI delivered exactly that. The curriculum connected strategy to action: how to design a BRE visit that leads to follow-through, how to frame a project so partners can say ‘yes,’ and how to build a data-informed case that resonates with commissioners and residents alike.

Back home, I used those tools to convene a broader coalition, clarify roles, and set simple, measurable milestones. We improved how we communicate progress and how we prepare for grants—shifting from reactive to proactive. The biggest surprise was the people: instructors with deep, real-world experience and classmates who openly share what works (and what doesn’t). That network has become a lasting source of ideas and encouragement.

Professionally, I’m more effective. Personally, I’m more energized. OU EDI helped me see a path through complexity—and gave me a community to walk it with. If you’re wondering whether your story ‘fits,’ it does. EDI meets you where you are and equips you to make tangible, local impact.”

The College of Professional and Continuing Studies will host the 2026 Feaver-MacMinn Seminar on April 25–26, bringing students, faculty, and industry leaders together for two days of presentations, discussions, and hands-on exploration of applied artificial intelligence.

The endowed seminar honors the legacy of J. Clayton Feaver and Paul MacMinn, two influential OU faculty members whose commitment to inquiry and student engagement continues to guide this event.

This year’s seminar features three prominent voices in AI: Dr. Asim Ali of Auburn University, Dr. Shishir Shah of the University of Oklahoma, and Dr. Kyle Jones, an industry expert whose work spans Databricks, AWS, and ExxonMobil.

Through keynote talks, themed breakout sessions, and a closing panel, the speakers will examine emerging ideas in AI practice, responsible deployment, and the future of data-driven decision-making.

On Sunday, students present their work to the speaker panel, connecting course concepts with real-world perspectives. For students enrolled in PSIS 4700: Applied AI in the Workplace, the seminar serves as the capstone learning experience for the term.

The Feaver-MacMinn Seminar is free and open to the public, but registration is required to ensure adequate space and materials for all participants. Questions about participation or registration may be directed to Coleman Patterson at [email protected].
