What is Juneteenth?

June 19th is known/recognized as Juneteenth.
This day celebrates the end of slavery in the United States.
On January 1, 1863, President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, freeing more than three million slaves in the Confederate states. However, many people continued to be held captive after the proclamation announcement.
Sadly, the news finally reached enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865.

We honor and celebrate the symbolic day that represents African American freedom on Juneteenth.
