π Meet Our Founder: Josephine Mace π
Girls, this is Josephine Maceβthe woman whose vision helped bring the Daughters of Mokanna to life.
In 1919, several Grotto members and their wives hoped to form a womenβs organization built on fellowship and shared ideals. They met with Josephine, who served as the Orderβs organizer and became our first Supreme Mighty Chosen One. With their support, her dream became reality on June 5, 1919.
The first four local bodies were Amoo in Rock Island, Illinois; Mohassan in Davenport, Iowa; Ankara in Kansas City, Missouri; and Zal in Moline, Illinois. From those beginnings, the Order grew across the United States and into Canada.
Josephineβs legacy lives on in the friendship, service, charity, education, patriotism, and good fellowship we share as Daughters. As we celebrate Membership and Daughtership, letβs remember the woman whose dream gave our sisterhood its beginning. π
