Stark State alum Dr. Jerome West is proof that challenging times may just be the beginning of something greater.

Jerome arrived at Stark State in 2001 with a 1.6 high school GPA. When he graduated in 2006, he finished with more than an associate degree.

“Stark State taught me how to fall in love with the educational journey,” Jerome said.

He continued learning, eventually earning multiple advanced degrees, including a doctorate of healthcare administration and a master's in clinical counseling. Today, he serves as a healthcare leader and advocates for behavioral health equity.

It takes courage to change direction and pursue a new path. Congratulations, Tyler, for answering the call to serve others in our community ❤💙🚑

Hope Happens Here ❤️

As a participant in CommQuest’s Supported Employment Program, Tyler has been working toward a brighter future for himself and his 6-year-old daughter. After more than 15 years in the same job, he took a courageous leap and pursued a completely new career as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).

With determination and a belief that change was possible, Tyler completed EMT training at Stark State College, passed his state and National Registry exams, and is now a licensed EMT helping others in his community.

Throughout this journey, Tyler has continued to prioritize his own well-being with support from CommQuest while staying focused on his goals.

Please join us in celebrating Tyler and all he has accomplished! We are so proud to be part of his journey and can’t wait to see where it takes him next.
