Founded on April 4, 1986 at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa, the organization is committed to create and expand multicultural leadership, promote academic excellence, advance cultural awareness and service while influencing its mission amongst all dedicated collegiate men worldwide. Pride is dignity. Pride is respect. Pride is brotherhood.

This Pride Month, Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity Inc. stands with our LGBTQ+ brothers, siblings, families, and communities.

As trans people face escalating attacks, as rights are stripped away, and as ICE raids spread fear in our communities, we reaffirm our belief that no one should have to live in fear because of who they are, who they love, where they come from, or how they show up in the world.

Our brotherhood calls us to stand with courage, love, and solidarity — during Pride Month and every month.

wasn’t a word.
There was no TikTok.
No Instagram Reels.
No viral challenges.

That same year, Speaker Nancy Pelosi shattered a glass ceiling as the first woman elected Speaker of the House.

And Apple introduced a little device called the iPhone.

A device that would forever change how we connect, create, and tell our stories.

It also helped create the path for one of Sigma Lambda Beta’s most memorable viral moments—a video created by the Brothers of the Rho Alpha Chapter that reached far beyond their campus and introduced countless people to our Brotherhood.

Now, nearly 20 years later, we’re looking for the next generation of creators.

Today, we recognize Cinco de Mayo not as a marketing slogan, but as a story of resistance, solidarity, and freedom.

The Battle of Puebla was more than Mexico’s victory over the French in 1862. For Latinos in California who started the holiday and across the Americas, it was also seen as a victory against slavery — a blow to Napoleon III’s plans to support the Confederacy during the U.S. Civil War. 

As Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc., we honor this history and the generations who understood that the fight for culture, dignity, and liberation has always transcended borders.

From the first matchup to the final round, they showed consistency, unity, and true brotherhood every step of the way.
