Today, we’re proud to celebrate Mission Blue’s first Founder’s Day and the birthday of Dr. Sylvia Earle!
πŸŒŠπŸ’™πŸŒŠ
Dr. Earle has inspired generations of marine scientists, explorers, and ocean advocates to better understand and protect our blue planet. Her lifelong commitment to ocean conservation is a powerful reminder that science, exploration, and community can work together to create meaningful change.
πŸŒŠπŸ’™πŸŒŠ
As Dr. Earle reminds us, β€œOne person times 7 billion makes all the difference in the world.”
The ocean needs our help – Mission Blue and Dr. Sylvia Earle are working to meet the global goal of protecting 30% of the ocean by 2030.
πŸŒŠπŸ’™πŸŒŠ
Here’s to continuing to explore, educate, and inspire action for our ocean. Happy Founder’s Day, Mission Blue!

Snapshots from our study abroad Brazilian Amazon trip, led by Dr. Richard Brinn & Dr. Alain Duran.
🌊🌴🌊
This course provided hands on learning opportunities for students as they focused on aquatic biology & environmental science in collaboration with local researchers in the streams, rivers, and flooded forests of the Amazon region.

This World Ocean Day, protect what gives us hope.
πŸŒŠπŸ’™πŸŒŠ
At the Florida Keys and Ten Thousand Islands Hope Spot, including Biscayne Bay, we are working to better understand, restore, and protect the ecosystems that make South Florida so extraordinary. From coral reefs and seagrass meadows to mangroves and coastal waters, these habitats support incredible biodiversity and connect our communities to the ocean.
πŸͺΈπŸ πŸͺΈ
FIU scientists, Dr. Heather Bracken-Grissom, Dr. Mike Heithaus, & Dr. Mireya Mayor, are proud to help champion this Hope Spot and provide the science needed to safeguard these ecosystems for future generations.
πŸŒŠπŸ’™πŸŒŠ
The ocean matters to us because it inspires curiosity, fuels discovery, and reminds us that hope begins with understanding.

β€œHow can we stay out the water at BBC?

It’s definitely a challenge not to take every moment to explore and say β€œHello” to the marine life! We even waved at three checkered pufferfish doing some exploring of their own πŸ‘β€
