🎓 Alumni Spotlight: Stephanie Rivera ('17) 📈

CSUN taught Stephanie something every grad needs to hear: your path doesn't have to be perfectly figured out — you have to keep moving forward. 💫

During her time at CSUN, Stephanie learned to balance school, work, and internships while gaining the independence and confidence that would shape her career. She started as an intern while still in college and has since built an incredible career in media and marketing—working with major brands, developing creative campaigns, and building strong client relationships. She also earned her master's degree along the way! 🙌

Her proudest moment? Looking back and seeing just how far she's come. 🌟

Her advice for upcoming grads? 💬
"Don't put too much pressure on yourself to have everything figured out right after graduation. Your career may take you in a completely different direction than you originally planned, and that's okay. Be open to opportunities, make connections, ask questions, and don't be afraid to start somewhere and work your way up.

🎓 Alumni Spotlight: Gessele Malubag ('24) 🎬

From CSUN Journalism (PR emphasis) + Marketing minor to working in Hollywood publicity — Gessele's journey is proof that hard work & humility go a long way! ✨

At CSUN, she served as CSUN PRSSA's Director of Communications and wrote for CSUN Today as a Student Assistant— all while gaining real-world experience through internships at Hallmark Media and NBCUniversal

Since graduating, she's landed not one but TWO jobs in her dream field: starting as a Film Publicity Coordinator at Katrina Wan, and now serving as a Global Publicity Admin. Assistant at Universal Pictures, supporting the SVP of Global Publicity! 🌟

Her advice to upcoming grads? 💬
"Be humble and soak up as much information as you can. It's important to be eager and willing to dive in headfirst, but also recognize the value of sitting back, observing, and listening to how processes are handled."

Meet Nicole Khait, CSUN grad (May 2025)! 🎬📺

Nicole's CSUN journey centered on CSUN PRSSA! 💼 She says getting involved made her college experience 10x better, connecting her with industry pros and giving her the network and resume-building experience to launch her career. 🙌

After an academic-year internship with NBCUniversal, Nicole is now working FULL TIME as a Publicity Coordinator for NBC Entertainment and Peacock Scripted TV Publicity! 🎉 In her words: "It feels so full circle." 💫

Her advice for future grads 👇
"Internships are so important! Apply to everything you can, and utilize your network and community for resources and opportunities. Skills and experience matter!" ✨

She even worked at the CSUN Oasis Wellness Center on campus as an events assistant, knowing it would strengthen her resume- proof that every experience counts! 💪

Meet Carlos Herrera, Class of 2014! 

Carlos looks back on his time at CSUN with gratitude for the professors who became mentors, colleagues, and friends. But his CSUN experience gave him more than the skills to report a story. It taught him adaptability, how to handle rejection and criticism, the importance of preparation, and the value of building relationships with industry professionals.

After graduation, Carlos landed his first on-air job in his dream starter market, where he learned to anchor weather and traffic and cover natural disasters in ways he never imagined.

And his proudest accomplishment? Getting a job in his hometown. ❤️

His advice to upcoming graduates:

💡 Don’t wait for the “perfect” first job.
💡 Say yes to opportunities that scare you a little.
💡 Learn every part of the newsroom.
💡 Build relationships, not just a résumé.

Carlos’s journey reminds us that your first opportunity doesn’t have to be your dream job. Sometimes, it’s the opportunity that helps you discover what you’re capable of.

Wherever you are in your journey, keep saying yes, keep learning, and keep building your bridge. 🌉

🎓 Alumni Spotlight: Malia Jade Young ’25

For Malia Jade Young, her time at CSUN was about more than earning a degree. It was about resilience.

After beginning college during the pandemic, Malia pushed through challenges, got involved on campus, worked for the USU, joined CSUN PRSSA, made the Dean's List, and finished her senior year stronger than ever.

Since graduating, she's continued building her career, including an internship at a fashion PR agency and an unforgettable opportunity to work at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. ⚽🏆

Her advice to upcoming graduates?

“Your journey is yours alone, so don't measure it against anyone else's timeline. Trust the process, keep showing up, and stay open to the right opportunities.”
