From the classroom straight to the national stage! 🎓✨

When Professor Dennis Kalob invited Criminal Justice major Emma Baran ’27 to represent Wheaton College (MA) at a national conference, she took it a step further: “What if I did my own research?” Inspired by guest practitioners in her Restorative Justice course, Emma developed a comprehensive national implementation plan for restorative justice alternatives. She presented her findings alongside classmates Abby Breitenbach ’26 and Emilee Brown ’26 at the National Conference on Community and Restorative Justice. Abby and Emilee also presented their research evaluating tutoring programs in carceral facilities through their work with The Petey Greene Program.

Farm House + Art Haus = one very good backyard. 🥕🎨

More than 75 Wheaton College students showed up for the Farm & Friends market in Norton, Mass., co-hosted by two of our student-run theme houses. There was fresh produce from the Farm House garden, make-your-own bouquets, linoleum stamp carving, and caricatures drawn on the spot.

The free veggies were gone before the event ended. One student grabbed a giant zucchini and cooked dinner for her whole floor. Others turned the caricatures into a full-on doodle trade.

"We witnessed so many people smiling, laughing and introducing themselves to others," says Farm House president Maezy Gleason '28.

Want in on the gardening? Farm Club meets Fridays from 2 to 4 p.m. and everyone's welcome, no experience needed.

Before you speak, pause.

That's the lesson Isabella Correa '27 took from leading conversations on difficult topics, and it helped earn her a national honor. Isabella, a senior at Wheaton College in Norton, MA, has been named a 2026-27 Newman Civic Fellow by Campus Compact! 🎉

"Give the stage and my full attention to the people who are speaking," says the women's and gender studies major, who facilitates Wheaton's Community Dialogue Series. This November she'll meet fellow honorees in Washington, D.C., and she's now designing a civic engagement project of her own.

Happy Founder's Day! Our tradition started on September 27, 1889, when students and teachers gave founder Eliza Baylies Chapin Wheaton 80 roses for her 80th birthday. Today, President Whelan keeps the tradition alive by presenting roses to her portrait for her 217th birthday.

If you’ve walked by Mary Lyon Hall recently, you might have noticed a look that hasn’t been seen since 1849! 🏛️✨

A donor-funded restoration project is currently stripping away 177 years of paint to reveal the building's original bare wood exterior. Using specialized infrared tools, workers are carefully removing the paint in large sheets so they can repair the historic wood before giving Mary Lyon Hall a fresh coat of its signature yellow and white!

The project also includes restoring the foundation, signature cupola, and replacing all windows—ensuring our most recognizable campus landmark stays strong for generations to come.

Over 100 Wheaton College students spent their summer gaining hands-on, real-world experience in industries ranging from Boston Children's Hospital and state government to sports organizations and research centers!

Thanks to stipend support provided through the Life and Career Design Institute—where every student has guaranteed access to apply for funding for unpaid internships—our Lyons were able to test-drive career paths and build professional networks across the country.
