Meet Dr. Holly Martin! First Year Advisor College of Arts and Letters

Dr. Holly Martin grew up on a small farm in southern Minnesota and loves being indoors to see great theatre productions and classic movies from the 1930s and 40s and outdoors to hike to ruins and petroglyphs in the American Southwest. She is also happy to travel to England on any excuse. Although she is not an expert gardener, she loves nothing more than messing about (and reading) in her backyard garden. Dr. Martin earned undergraduate degrees in history and English at St. Olaf College in Minnesota, and a Ph.D. in English literature at Notre Dame. In addition to advising, she teaches an introductory course on Shakespeare and an interdisciplinary course, "Global Art and Identity," which explores how various cultures express their values through their art. Her husband earned his Ph.D. in philosophy at ND, and her daughter did her undergraduate degree in art history and classics at ND. The College of Arts & Letters is very much home to her.

Favorite Pastime: Hiking in the Southwest (short, easy hikes!)
Favorite Spot on Campus: The path around St. Mary's Lake
Favorite Notre Dame Tradition: The football players and the students in the stands singing the alma mater together after every football game.
Recommended Spot in South Bend: 10,000 Villages, a shop specializing in handmade fair trade items, in Mishawaka (right next door to South Bend).
What sets Notre Dame apart, for you?: The splendid students

Meet Drew Espeseth! - First Year Advisor Mendoza College of Business

Hi everyone! I'm Drew Espeseth, originally from the tiny town of Portal, North Dakota, population 125. For real. I earned my bachelor's degree in journalism and public relations and a master's in educational leadership, both from North Dakota State University (go Bison!). Prior to joining Notre Dame I served as the Honors Program coordinator at the University of South Dakota, an academic advisor and lecturer at North Dakota State University, and assistant director of the Academic Support Center at Minnesota State University Moorhead. I love to travel, do a little biking, and am always open to a good Netflix recommendation.

Favorite Pastime: Seeing live music
Favorite Spot on Campus: The Grotto
Favorite Notre Dame Tradition: Trumpets Under the Dome
Recommended Spot in South Bend: The Lauber - you can't go wrong with the Tin Can Nachos
What sets Notre Dame apart? The deep traditions and sense of community

Meet Dr. Mallory Jagodzinski! First Year Advisor College of Engineering

Hello future advisees! I’m Mallory Jagodzinski, aka Dr. Jag (bonus points if you pronounce my last name right on the first try!). I’m a lover of Taylor Swift, Antonio Gramsci, mozzarella sticks, and my cat Leo. I have a doctorate in American Culture Studies. I am an active participant in the critical studies of popular romance and feminist and social justice causes. I'm proud of my Midwest roots, but love to travel. Working with my First Year engineers brings together all the aspects of working with students that I enjoy. I can’t wait to welcome you here!
