Join us at 4PM Tuesday, May 26, for a zoom flash panel conversation with Notre Dame experts on the import of Pope Leo XIV’s highly anticipated first encyclical, “Magnifica Humanitas: On the Protection of Human Dignity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.”

Paolo Carozza (Notre Dame Law School), Paul Scherz (Department of Theology), and Rev. John Paul Kimes (Notre Dame Law School) will discuss the content and implications of the Holy Father’s reflection on the rise of artificial intelligence, which he has called “another industrial revolution . . . that pose[s] new challenges for the defense of human dignity, justice and labor.” Details & register: https://ethicscenter.nd.edu/events/2026/05/26/flash-panel-magnifica-humanitas-human-dignity-in-the-age-of-ai/

Today is the anniversary of the passing of philosopher Alasdair MacIntyre, our permanent senior distinguished research fellow at the de Nicola Center. We remain grateful for the profound keynote addresses he gave at our annual Fall Conference, collected on our YouTube channel. May Professor MacIntyre, and all the faithful departed, rest in peace.

Our Sorin Fellow Gabriela Sierocka, a Computer Science major, took First Place in the 2026 Library Research Award from the Hesburgh Libraries . Following her graduation this weekend, she will pursue a master’s degree in applied digital health at Oxford University.

This year’s Library Research Award Capstone or Thesis Research award winners, Gabriela Sierocka and Kate Rafford, discovered a wealth of resources to help them rise to the top.

Both said they wouldn’t have been able to complete their research projects without the expert help and extensive resources available at Hesburgh Libraries.

Liam Schlosser, one of our undergraduate Sorin Fellows, will graduate from Old College at the University of Notre Dame this weekend and has petitioned to enter the Congregation of Holy Cross, joining fellow Sorin Fellows Paul Gates & Austin Brezina as postulants this fall.

On May 17, senior Liam Schlosser will be the only student of Old College to graduate from the University. Schlosser, a philosophy and theology joint major, is from Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin.

According to his profile page, Schlosser was drawn to Holy Cross because of “The Spirituality of Holy Cross compels Holy Cross religious to stand with the suffering just as Mary did at the foot of Jesus’ Cross. I too want to walk with others in this way!”

Speaking with The Observer, Schlosser noted that he is presently in the petition process and the next step of his journey will be to enter the postulancy program at Moreau Seminary and Scholasticate. Presently, he is waiting for a response from the Holy Cross provincial for acceptance to the program.
