🚨 Summer Scholars Course Highlight: Pop Art for the Digital Age
Professor Justin Barfield returns to Summer Scholars with his hands-on course: Pop Art for the Digital Age. This project-based class connects the iconic themes and techniques of the Pop Art movement directly to modern global issues.
🎨 From Consumerism to Complexity
The journey starts with Pop Art’s mid-century origins as a sharp critique of post-WWII consumer culture, mass production, and advertising. Rejecting Abstract Expressionism, trailblazers like Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Corita Kent, and Robert Rauschenberg turned everyday life—from television and media to the Civil Rights Movement—into powerful art, often using screen printing as their primary medium. Now, students will channel that same creative critique to tackle today's digital world.
This course will be offered during Summer Scholars Session I (June 19-July 3, 2027).
Applications open on October 19, 2026.
