📞 Reading card numbers over the phone
⏳ Immediate payment to “avoid trouble”

Six Rivers National Forest proudly announces James Shortt as the 2025 Firefighter of the Year & recipient of the Dale A. Mendes Award 🔥👏

James Shortt is currently a Fire Engine Operator (FEO) on Engine 341 based on the Mad River Ranger District. Throughout the 2025 fire season, he consistently embodied the high professional standards that defined Dale Mendes’ career—hard work, leadership, integrity, and a relentless commitment to the mission.

Shortt is quick to take the initiative and lead out on mission critical tasks such as- extended shifts, crew oversight, and tactical decision-making—without hesitation. This leadership and strong work ethic has been essential in maintaining operational readiness, especially during peak fire activity. He leads with fairness and respect, encouraging others constructively and offering solutions to improve module efficiency while mentoring newer firefighters.

Congratulations James on this well deserved honor! Thank you for your dedication and service to our communities, your fellow firefighters, and our forest! 🙌
