Sukkot is a week-long Jewish harvest festival that begins at sundown on September 25, 2026, and continues through October 2, 2026

🍋It is an autumn holiday giving thanks for the gathered crops. 🍋People build temporary, outdoor booths with thatched or branch-covered roofs to remember the shelters used by the Israelites during their 40 years in the desert.
🍋 Families eat all their meals, entertain guests, and sometimes sleep inside the sukkah.
🍋Worshippers take four plants—a palm branch (lulav), myrtle (hadassah), willow (aravah), and citrus fruit (etrog)—and wave them during daily prayers.

Yom Kippur, or the Day of Atonement, begins at sundown on Sunday, September 20, 2026, and ends at nightfall on Monday, September 21, 2026.

Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the year in Judaism and it marks the end of the Ten Days of Repentance that begin with Rosh Hashanah. A time to pray for forgiveness and reflect on the past year, this holiday is observed for roughly 25 to 26 hours by also fasting from food and water.

We are so delighted to have one of our Mabel Biever Music Camp Scholarship Winners at our September meeting. Congratulations to Majeed Muhammad, who played his cello beautifully!

Our other winner Israel Fernandez, also a cello player, was not able to join us but will be featured at a later meeting date!

Thank you to Mary Ann Sadilek for accompanying! Shout out to Donna Budil for hosting us all and to our co-hostesses Jane Wood and Jean Tomkinson!
