Merritt College Permaculture Design "Observe Nature thoroughly, rather than labor thoughtlessly.” ~Masanobu Fukuoka Students can earn a Certificate in Permaculture Design in just two years.

Merritt College's Permaculture Design program, is one of the few community college permaculture programs in the U.S.. Classes are held at Merritt College's Landscape Horticulture Department. The Permaculture Garden is located inside the Landscape Horticulture Department grounds. The garden is designed using sustainable practices and permaculture ethics. Each semester, staff and students care for and maintain the garden. Students receive half of their instruction in the garden, gaining hands on experience while applying permaculture principles.
