We’re hiring!

The Department of Visual Art & Design at Weber State University is seeking a full-time, non-tenure track Instructor to join DOVAD beginning July 1, 2027.

This position will primarily teach lower-division General Education and Foundations courses, serve as DOVAD’s Concurrent Enrollment Liaison, and contribute to departmental service and faculty governance.

We’re looking for a collaborative, organized educator who is committed to supporting students from a variety of backgrounds and experiences and contributing to their success and sense of belonging at Weber State.

A look back at Curio Theatre, co-curated by María del Mar González-González and Cully Long, where visual art and live performance came together for a one-of-a-kind experience.

Guests selected original works of art to take home, then watched as performers brought those pieces to life through performances created in response to each work. The evening celebrated collaboration across disciplines, bringing together artists, performers, faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends from throughout the arts at Weber State.

We’re especially proud of the DOVAD community who helped make Curio Theatre possible, including María del Mar González-González and artists Art Morrill, Kellie Bornhoft, Ian Burnley, Alejandro Moya, Ben Evjen, Janika Linville, and Margot Shepherd.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to all of the artists and performers who made each encounter unique!

Congratulations to DOVAD Professor Matthew Choberka on his solo exhibition, Read Me Like a Book!

Featuring a new series of paintings, Read Me Like a Book will be on view through December across three Weber County Library locations. The exhibition is currently at the Pleasant Valley Branch through September 4, then travels to the Huntsville Branch for October before concluding at the Southwest Branch in Roy for November and December.

There will be a reception at the Southwest Branch on Nov. 10 at 6 p.m.

This student exhibition brings together experimental approaches to photography and image-making, featuring alternative processes like cyanotype, salt, platinum-palladium, and albumen printing alongside video, sculpture, and 2D works.

What happens when you choose a work of art—and then get to see it come alive?
At Curio Theatre, your ticket lets you choose two original artworks to take home, each paired with a live performance created in response to the piece you selected. One night, two artworks, two performances—and no two encounters are the same.

We’re excited to give a shoutout to the DOVAD faculty, students, and alumni helping bring this interdisciplinary project to life! 🎨🎭 Featured contributors include María del Mar González-González, Art Morrill, Kellie Bornhoft, Ian Burnley, Alejandro Moya, Ben Evjen, Margot Shepherd, and Janika Linville.

This collaborative project brings together artists and performers from across visual art, theatre, dance, and music to create an experience where every audience member encounters something different.
