Browning Presents!
October 12 | 12:00 - 1:00 pm
Wildcat Theater (SU 208)

Write a song. Win. Perform it onstage. American Patchwork Quartet invites Weber State students to explore the American protest-song tradition, write the next verse, and bring a new song into the convo. Through the American Protest Song Challenge, students will dig into the tradition, write something of their own, and get a shot at taking the stage with APQ. Participants will also receive a free ticket to the October 14 concert, where the quartet cracks open the American folk tradition and rebuilds it for the present. Participate in this amazing songwriting workshop!

“This summer, I had some free time to do a deep dive into the fiction of Elizabeth Strout.

She has quickly become one of my favorite writers. She has written ten novels, five of which I read or reread this summer. Elizabeth Strout’s Pulitzer Prize and Booker Prize short-list novel, “The Things We Never Say,” is her latest work. Her novels can be read chronologically, as many of the same characters reappear in subsequent texts. For example, “Olive Kitteridge” has a sequel in “Olive Again.” The character Olive reappears in “Tell Me Everything” and the Lucy Barton novels.

What I love so much about Strout is her beautiful prose filled with gentle humor and keen observations into human nature. She reminds me of Jane Austen in her wit, intelligence, and elegant storytelling. Her focus on everyday domestic life and its trials and tribulations encapsulates themes of loneliness, the complexity of family bonds, generational traumas, and the interior and exterior lives of her characters in quirky small-town Maine, making for a ten-out-of-ten recommendation for my choice of readings.” - Kyra Hudson
