Evening for Educators: Kaboom! Art in Motion
Thursday, October 22, 2026 from 5-8 pm

Inspired by the 2026 Caldecott Medal-winning picture book Fireworks, KABOOM! Art in Motion is an engaging, arts-integrated workshop that explores the vibrant intersections of visual art, dance, and literacy. Offered in both in-person and online formats, this teacher workshop is led by visual art and dance educators. Participants will discover accessible movement strategies inspired by the rich language and rhythmic energy of the text while investigating expressive mark-making techniques rooted in Abstract Expressionism and echoed in the book’s illustrations.

Through creative movement, close observation, and artistic exploration, educators will experience how integrating the arts can deepen comprehension, nurture self-expression, and spark imagination across content areas. Participants will leave with practical strategies, fresh inspiration, and meaningful ways to connect movement, color, and storytelling in their own classrooms.

This Evening for Educators workshop is presented by the WSU Arts Learning Collaborative and directed toward K-12 visual art, dance, and general classroom teachers.

Attendees will receive a copy of Fireworks by Matthew Burgess & Cátia Chien

Explore & Express the Science Around Us: Secrets of the Dessert
April 16, 2026 from 5-7 pm on Zoom

What don't we see at first glance?
Join us as we explore the world around us! Have you ever wondered...

🍰 Why a recipe could call for baking soda, baking powder, or both?
🍪 What exactly is the difference between a macaroon and a macaron?
🍮 How to interpret "high altitude" instructions?

Using cross-cutting science and math concepts, participants will explore the chemistry of baking through confection, patisserie, and more and do so much high-altitude conversion math they'll always have an answer for students' "when are we ever going to use this" questions.

But we are not joking when we say you only have two more weeks to register for our Secrets of the Desert webinar... or how many times our team has proofread "desert" to make sure it doesn't accidentally say "dessert" over the past few months.
