Coming together to strengthen our voice!

OU DPT students joined PTA students from Oklahoma City Community College and Seminole State Community College for the third annual Oklahoma Student Advocacy Dinner.

Thank you to Brandon Trachman, OU alumnus and APTA Oklahoma State Government Affairs Chair, for helping students learn how to advocate for the needs of communities across Oklahoma and for the physical therapy profession.

United in service! ☝️

First-year OU Doctor of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Doctorate students continued the annual tradition of Unity Day, working together to serve our community. ❤️

Students teamed up for beautification projects at the Tulsa Botanical Gardens, Arboretum, and The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges. This shared experience brought future PTs and OTs together to build connections and give back to the communities they will serve.

🎉 Congratulations to 2025 Sonography Program graduate Lillian Ghanem, BSMIRS, RDMS, RDCS, who earned 2nd Place in the W. Frederick Sample Student Excellence Awards for her research paper:

“Diagnostic Performance of Point-of-Care Ultrasound Vs. Computed Tomography in Ocular Trauma and Posterior Segment Injury.”

This prestigious award recognizes outstanding student writing and research in diagnostic medical sonography, encouraging the next generation of sonographers to advance the profession through scholarly work.

And the excellence doesn't stop there! 👏

🏆 2024 Sonography Program graduate Mackay Whalen, MS, RDMS, RDCS, RVT, along with Jennifer Bagley, MPH, RDMS, RVT, FAIUM, FSDMS, College of Allied Health Sonography Program Presidential Professor, and Jonathan Baldwin, Ph.D., CNMT, RT (CT), earned 2nd Place in the Kenneth R. Gottesfeld Award for their research:

“Comparing Abdominal and Retroperitoneal Organ Sonographic Measurements to Postdissection Measurements: A Pilot Study.”

We're proud to share third-year DPT students Zachary Edwards and Courtney Clark recently received the Best Poster Award at the Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy Annual Conference in Minneapolis.

Their research was supported by a College of Allied Health Faculty Seed Grant awarded to Dr. Bobbette Miller and Dr. Yo Shih. Through this work, Zachary and Courtney gained valuable hands-on experience in data processing, analysis, and sharing scientific findings.

We are proud of their dedication and hard work and their outstanding representation of the OU College of Allied Health Department of Rehabilitation Sciences on a national stage! 👏

Our sonography students and faculty attended the 2026 Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS) Annual Conference in Atlanta, GA, this September! 🎉

This national conference provided valuable opportunities to expand clinical knowledge through educational lectures, participate in hands-on scanning activities, explore the vendor exhibit hall, and connect with sonography professionals from across the country.

"Traveling to and participating in this conference really reinforced what I am learning at OU because I was able to see how the concepts we learn in class are being used in real-world situations. It was especially exciting to learn about things that go beyond what we have covered in the classroom and see where the field of sonography is headed in the future. Learning beyond the classroom and making a difference in our communities!

OU Doctor of Physical Therapy students teamed up with Physical Therapist Assistant students from Tulsa Community College and Oklahoma City Community College for the 2nd annual “Classroom Without Walls” activity focused on fall prevention and PT/PTA collaboration.

In recognition of Falls Prevention Awareness Month, students put the CDC’s STEADI (Stopping Elderly Accidents, Deaths & Injuries) initiative into action to help older adults stay safe, independent, and active in their communities.

We’re proud to celebrate Chesna Gordon, a 2025 Sonography Program graduate, on being selected for the 2026 Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS) Emerging Leaders Program! 👏🩺

At the conclusion of the program, Chesna was selected to represent the 2026 cohort at the SDMS Annual Conference, taking place this September in Atlanta, Georgia.

What an incredible accomplishment and a wonderful reflection of Chesna’s leadership, dedication, and commitment to the sonography profession. We can’t wait to see all that she continues to achieve! ❤️

This summer, our occupational therapy (OT) and physical therapy (PT) students put their learning into action through two meaningful Unity Clinic outreach events!

🚗 Our first-year OT doctoral students became CarFit technicians and participated in two summer events through a collaboration with the OKC Housing Authority. CarFit helps older adults find the best “fit” in their vehicles to promote comfort and safe driving. (Slides 1-2)

🎒 OT and PT students joined Unity Clinic for its annual back-to-school event. OT students taught children how to make origami while sharing strategies with families to improve hand strength and dexterity to support handwriting. PT students provided grip strength and balance assessments, along with education on the importance of physical activity. (Slides 3-6)

We’re proud of our students for serving their community, connecting classroom learning to real-world experiences, and helping individuals of all ages thrive! ❤️☝️
