Hey, Stars!
Universities are popular targets for phishing scams, and OKCU is no exception. However, there are steps we can take as students, faculty, and staff to ensure that our information is secure and that we aren't falling victim to these scams.
First and foremost, know that Campus Technology will never ask for account verification via email or through a link. If you see these types of emails, treat them as spam.
We understand that people are getting smarter and the emails are looking more legitimate. If you would like to check the validity of an email before opening it, please forward it to [email protected] and we will check it out for you. We recommend changing your passwords if you think you have clicked on a suspicious link.
In the event that we detect an actual issue with your account, we will typically ask you to contact us via phone or in person. If your account is being spoofed to send spam emails (a common phishing technique), then we will simply temporarily disable the account so that email can not be sent from it. In these cases, we require a password reset before enabling the account.
Keep in mind that your password security is extremely important. Between email and BlueLink, there is invaluable information to gain for those with malicious intent. Never share your passwords with anyone or write them down where they can be easily accessed. Also, make sure you are using a secure, complex password. This website has some great password and security tips:

I hope this has helped clear up some of the confusion and ambiguity regarding phishing/spam emails and what to do when you receive a suspicious link.
If you have any questions or concerns at all, please do not hesitate to contact us or swing by the Helpdesk in MDUC 136. We'd love to help in any way we can!
