The Notorious Lambda Phi Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc, College at Old Westbury was the first Black Greek Letter Organization on the COW campus and the first chapter of Sigmas in Long Island. Grevelle French,.was instrumental in bringing Sigma's on the yard and in Long Island. The charter line members were all freshman excluding Frank, who was a transfer student from Lincoln and was sch
eduled to pledge at Mu chapter, but was unable to return to Lincoln. Hence the connection between Mu chapter and Lambda Phi was established. The seven freshman and Frank all bonded throughout the first semester, all hung out together and decided to pledge. A special dispensation was given allowing first semester freshmen’s to pledge. The Blue Warriors- Mark McLoyd (Munch #1), Derek N. Fredericks (Chilly D. #2), Reginald B. Hogans (Pizazz #3 #), Tyrone S. Owens (sly-ty #4) Victor S. Vereen (O.T.V. #5) Curtis Bailey (Apache #6) Christopher T. Bailey(Sa-Con #7) and Frank Noble II(Mr. Magic # 8) crossed the burning sands on April 25, 1980 and were known as Lambda Phi the first chapter of Sigmas on Long Island and the first recognized Fraternity on Old Westbury!!! The second line of brothers that were part our freshman click, but decided to wait another year before pledging. The Umoja Brothers crossed February 22, 1981. They are Rafael Rosado (tattoo #1 Omega Chapter), Kelvin Mitchell (mongo #2 Omega Chapter), Karl Wallace (3-D #3), Lee E. Taylor(Doc Rock #4, Omega Chapter) Joseph A. Johnson (Dark Vader #5) and Marvin Daniels (starving marvin #6)
