Creighton University Department of History

Creighton University Department of History “Exploring [the past] involves a sense of beauty and excitement, and ultimately another perspective on human life and society.” ~ Peter N. Stearns

The Department of History at Creighton offers students the opportunity to work with experienced faculty members dedicated to excellent teaching and to significant research and publication in their respective fields. The department offers an attractive range of courses in United States, European, Latin American, African, Asian, and Middle Eastern history and in a variety of time periods from ancien

t times to the present. Scholars in the department share their interests and expertise in such areas as political, legal, and diplomatic history; race, ethnicity, religion, and gender; nationalism, imperialism, and decolonization; and many other subjects of inquiry. Students may take a standard major (or minor) in history that offers broad training in the field or they may specialize in international relations. The study of history is excellent preparation for employment in professions like teaching, law, business, journalism, museum studies, library and information science, and public policy and service.
