UNO Division of Continuing Studies Information and updates for alumni, future and current students, and all of our friends!

For over 80 years, the Division of Continuing Studies (DCS) has been dedicated exclusively to the needs of adult and contemporary learners by meeting our students where they are. This is our guiding philosophy – from the way we engage with our students to the structure of our degree program – our goal is to connect where our students have been with where they want to go. Through our collaboration with UNO's colleges, schools and affiliated departments, the Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Studies (BMS) continues to be a high quality academic program that honors the individual needs of our diverse, multigenerational student population.

Finishing a degree is important. So is figuring out what comes next.

Adult learners don't arrive at college as blank slates. They bring careers, families, experiences, responsibilities, strengths, and sometimes, questions about where they want to go next.

That's part of the idea behind Designing U, an innovative course offered through DCS.

Using a life design approach, students explore their strengths and values, imagine different possibilities for their futures, and test those possibilities through real-world experiences.

It's not about having your life figured out, it’s about having tools to try, learn, adjust, and keep moving forward.

Because in the Division of Continuing Studies, we're not only helping adult learners reach graduation, we're helping them design what comes next.

During YOU can invest in the students and programs moving adult learning forward at UNO.

Today's the day.

Wear Black, Give Back begins today at UNO at Noon (officially).

Yesterday, we introduced you to Denise, who started college in 1980 and finally held her UNO degree in her hands in August.

Her journey is uniquely hers, but the determination behind it is something we see every day in DCS.

Adult learners are balance college with careers, families, and responsibilities while continuing to work toward something important to them.

Today, YOU can help them keep moving forward.

Gifts to DCS help!

and help adult learners finish what they started.

Meet Denise…

Denise first started college after graduating from high school in 1980. But life has a way of changing our plans.

There was work. Family. Responsibilities. And for someone who has always been the person taking care of everyone else: kids, family, friends and the people she encounters through work, finishing her own degree kept getting pushed further down the list.

In 2014, Denise gave college another try, taking one class at a time. But balancing school with everything else remained difficult, and once again, her degree had to wait.

Nearly 10 years later, she came back to DCS with a decision: it’s time to get finished.

Armed with tuition assistance from an employer, some scholarship help from donors like YOU, a lot of faith, and plenty of determination, Denise worked her way to one final requirement: Math. 😅

This August, more than four decades after she first started college, Denise earned her bachelor’s degree from UNO.

Her journey is a reminder that there is no expiration date on a goal, and no single timeline for earning a college degree.

Tomorrow, Wear Black, Give Back begins at UNO. YOU can help more adult learners keep moving toward their finish line: https://givingday.unomaha.edu/campaigns/division-of-continuing-studies

There is no one path to a college degree.

For nearly 80 years, UNO's Division of Continuing Studies has helped adult and contemporary learners turn college goals into degrees.

Our students bring experience with them. They've built careers, raised families, served their communities, changed directions and sometimes taken a few detours along the way.

What brings them together is a goal: finish what they started, and build what's next.

This Wednesday and Thursday, DCS is participating in UNO's Wear Black, Give Back.

Over the next few days, well share a little more about the students we serve, the work we're doing and how you can help adult learners continue moving forward.

Finish what you started. Design what comes next.
