Freemasonry is often a way of life for many who pass through it's several degrees. It can be just a bit of knowledge attained for some, but for many who truly reap it's benefits, it is already ingrained in them and just acts as a medium for the good nature of that brother to shine. It can also bring travelers of this planet together who may have otherwise remained perpetual strangers. That has been the case many times for me.
I found recently I was reminded of these lessons when a Brother of the lodge passed away. He was one of those who lived and breathed Freemasonry. Not because he had seen those degrees many moons ago but because it was who he was and he used Freemasonry to express that out into the universe. He was a role model for any new Brother and even for those who had travelled some. He left a large imprint on me especially during my term as Worshipful Master, as he did for many others. But I feel now as I remember him, if not for Freemasonry he and I would surely have never met. Nevermind build and toil as we did in the Lodge.
He was not just a friend and Brother, he was also a mentor and role model. It truely saddens so many hearts that he has left for the Celestial Lodge on high. However even in our time of grief we should be at peace with his great life and carry on the great memories and lessons he gave us. As he was a professor and loved to teach, let him remind us all of one more lesson...
So too shall we, as has he,
at the end of our journey on this plain,
return to that place from Whence we Came.
