😮🔍 With summertime construction in full swing, we've come to expect dust, drywall and detours. We weren't expecting a message from 50 years ago!!! A time capsule from the 1970s was found on campus on Wednesday! See what was inside at the link below:

Please join us in congratulating Springbrook CEO Patricia E. Kennedy on receiving an honorary Degree of Humane Letters from SUNY Oneonta during the 2026 Spring Commencement Ceremony for the School of Education, Human Ecology, and Sports Studies. 🙌

The honor recognizes her decades of leadership, advocacy, and commitment to creating inclusive opportunities and strengthening communities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

During her commencement address, Kennedy encouraged graduates to embrace their individuality, lead with purpose, and create meaningful impact in their communities.

“The world doesn’t need another copy; it needs you,” Kennedy shared with the Class of 2026. 💙

"I remember stressing over what to bring to college. My high school friend and roommate loaded all our stuff in his old car, and after a few wrong turns we made it to Oneonta not knowing what would lie ahead.

Looking back, maybe it wasn’t really that important what I brought to Oneonta because Oneonta gave me much more important things than stuff.

I gained lifelong friends that shared my values. I gained a different perspective ... I gained a great education ... I gained professors who took an interest in me and gave me valuable advice. And best of all, I met Linda, and we will celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary next month."

— Patrick McCann '75, who was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree at Commencement in recognition of his exceptional service to SUNY Oneonta and outstanding leadership in the environmental, engineering and construction industries
