The mission of the Northwestern College Cross Country & Track and Field programs is to Honor God, Respect Northwestern, and to Be Accountable Toward Teammates. First and most importantly, we seek to bring God glory by the way we train, by the way we compete, by the effort we give, and by the way we conduct ourselves both on and off the track. It is of utmost importance that we “never tire” (2 Thes
salonians 3:13) of living with the greater purpose of serving and honoring God in all that we do. Our team focus over the last several years has been to “Be an Athlete” – this charge was adopted to remind us that being an athlete is an all-encompassing way of living. In the same way an athlete exhibits discipline, accountability, teamwork, unselfishness, and perseverance in his/her respective sport, so should he/she practice and live out these same principles as a student, a Christian, and a member of the Northwestern community. Finally, we believe that cross country and track and field are team sports. While being grounded in the motto, “Team Above Self,” our aspiration is that athletes find their greatest satisfaction in putting the needs of their teammates and the program ahead of their own. Ultimately, we desire to be excellent in everything we do, whether that be academically, spiritually, socially, or athletically; and our hope is to develop and maximize the gifts and potential we’ve been given. We want running at Northwestern to one of the best parts of the college experience and look forward to watching the Lord work in the lives of each and every one of the people that make up our team.
