Charger Spirit was on fire 🔥 at the annual Charger Madness pep rally organized by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee!! The night was filled with athletic team introductions, laughs, prizes, and competitions including tug- of-war, the dunk contest, and the 3-point challenge. Shoutout to our Cheer Team and Caribbean Dance Team for bringing the performances and keeping the energy high! One night. Endless memories. Charger pride at its BEST! 🎉❤️🖤

Undergraduate nursing students in the evening traditional program recently welcomed high school students taking part in Cornell Cooperative Extension of Rockland's 4H Careers in Human and Animal Medicine Program to the University. The 4H members learned and practiced basic health lessons, and spoke with the nursing students about their nursing career journeys and experiences. The trip was such a success, the 4-H Program plans to return next year!

Great news for our Teachers of Students who are Blind or Visually Impaired (TVI) Program! 🎉The Dominican University TVI Program has received a three-year grant of up to $254,000 from the Lavelle Fund for the Blind to support our program and increase the supply of highly-qualified, certified TVIs. If you are interested in this rewarding field, Dominican University has a unique online program that only requires you to be on campus for three days at the end of June. Members of the Dominican University Alumni and Friends Travel Club recently returned from a ten-day “Sunny Portugal” tour. They traveled from Lisbon to Evora, Lagos, Obidos, and Cascais, the Portuguese Riviera, experiencing the local culture along the way. They visited an ancient Cistercian Monastery, the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, and took a scenic boat tour on the Atlantic Ocean through the rocks and caves of the region. lt was a spectacular immersion into the culture and heritage of Portugal!

The legacy of organ donor advocate Lauren Shields '22, who passed away this summer, lives on. Lauren's mom, Jeanne, and Dominican University students hosted a Donor Enrollment Drive on campus Thursday through LiveOnNY. Among those helping out was Isabella Munoz, a senior nursing student, who is also a heart transplant recipient and advocate for donor enrollment. Then, at nightfall, the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge was lit up blue, the color used by the LiveOnNY organization, in honor and memory of Lauren. Lauren helped pass Lauren's Law in New York State, which encourages people to say "yes" to organ donations when applying for a drivers license.

A favorite cafeteria worker -- Theresa Nguyen -- recently celebrated 40 years of service at the University. Theresa is the lead cashier and administrative support at the Granito Dining Center. Don't let her petite frame fool you. She is a powerhouse and says her energy never fades. Theresa is a former Vietnamese boat person who escaped from South Vietnam when the Communists attacked. She has no plans to retire and that's good news to her bosses and her customers! Officials from Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services and Dr. Martinez were on hand to give her a certificate, a gift, and flowers, thanking her for all her years of hard work. Thank you Theresa. You are the best. ♥️🖤

Help us honor the memory of Dominican University alumna Lauren Shields '22 by taking part in the LiveOnNY Donor Enrollment Drive coming up Thursday, October 8th. It will take place from 10 am to noon in Casey Hall and from 12:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Granito Center. Lauren's mom, Jeanne, will be on campus working on the enrollment drive. Lauren was a childhood heart transplant recipient and later, a kidney recipient, Her longtime advocacy for donation, led to legislation in New York named "Lauren's Law," which helped increase donor registration rates at DMVs . Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and through her gift of donation as a tissue donor. Please register as an organ donor on Thursday on campus or register today online at LiveOnNY.org.

Important news about our 2027 Commencement🎓: It will take place on Sunday, May 16th, 2027. That's a different date than was originally on the academic calendar. The date was changed because of the availability of the venue. Commencement will take place at the Westchester County Center in White Plains. Big news for the Dominican University Occupational Therapy Program🎉The OT Program has been awarded a $1.084 million, five-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education to launch Project ECHO (Early Childhood, Holistic Occupational Therapy Preparation). Project ECHO will prepare occupational therapists to serve infants, toddlers, and preschool-age children with developmental needs, as well as their families, with an emphasis on expanding access to high-quality, early intervention, and early childhood services in underserved communities across New York State. This initiative will build upon the University's unique Micro-credential in Community-Based Pediatric Practice, expanding opportunities for students to develop specialized competencies in serving young children and families in community settings. Starting in 2027, need-based scholarships will be provided to eligible OT students participating in the micro-credential. Through Project ECHO, Dominican University aims to address the critical shortage of Early Intervention providers in New York State by reducing the financial burden of graduate education, while expanding access to specialized preparation in pediatric occupational therapy.

Dominican University’s 53rd Annual Grand Reception on Sunday included a moving program honoring Ironworkers Local 417 and Hauser Bros, Inc. The entire International Ironworkers Association was recognized for its extraordinary and selfless service during 9/11. The Hauser family members were commended for their long, distinguished legacy of military service. VFW Post 9512 presented the Hauser family with an American flag and the Rockland County Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 120 gave the family a shadow box containing a Purple Heart and the medals earned by Charles “Chick” Hauser during World War II. Nursing student and Blauvelt volunteer firefighter John McMackin delivered the Student Address and said the people who have inspired him most, all have one thing in common: they chose lives of service.
