Today UVU dental hygiene students got the chance to visit the MNCA and learn from Laurie Leibowitz, who trained them on strategies to support patients with autism and varying abilities. Soon the students will get the chance to apply what they learned while interacting with the community!

A conference can spark ideas. A community can create change.

This spring, hundreds of individuals gathered to explore the intersection of autism and mental health. The discussions were thoughtful, honest, and hopeful.

Now comes the most important part: turning those conversations into meaningful action.

Across Utah, families, autistic adults, educators, healthcare providers, and community organizations are working to navigate complex mental health needs. We know there is no single solution, but we also know progress starts with listening.

What if the next step isn't creating solutions for the community, but creating them with the community?

At the Autism and Mental Health Conference, we heard powerful perspectives from autistic adults, families, clinicians, educators, students, and community leaders.

One message was clear:

Mental health support must be accessible, autism-informed, and shaped by the people who use it.

Utah has an opportunity to strengthen support, expand professional capacity, and create more pathways to care, but first we need to understand the needs, barriers, and priorities that exist across our state.
