✨✨✨The UCF University Writing Center - UWC has received the Southeastern Writing Center Association’s Christine Cozzens Research Grant and Initiative Program Award for a project that will bring together writing center professionals from universities across Florida.

Led by Amy Cicchino, Ph.D., director of the UCF Writing Center and associate professor in the Department of Writing and Rhetoric, the project, “Developing Disciplinary Genre Awareness through Cross-Center Collaboration,” includes writing centers at UCF, Florida A&M University, New College of Florida, Nova Southeastern University and the University of South Florida.

Led by Amy Cicchino, Ph.D., director of the UCF Writing Center, a new grant will develop a guide focused on writing within a particular academic discipline.

Congratulations to Professor Natalie Madruga, who was an inaugural Faculty Fellow for the Office of Hispanic Serving Institution Initiatives as part of the office's title V grant, Project POTENCIAL, for the last two years. 🏆

Project POTENCIAL (Promoting Opportunities that Enhance Navigation, Completion, Inclusion, and Learning) aimed to expand and enhance institutional capacity to strengthen student sense of belonging, increase engagement in high-impact practices, and improve timely graduation rates for Hispanic, low-income, and transfer students of all backgrounds.

Join Professor Emily Proulx for another iteration of ENC3375 Rhetoric in Pop Culture: Taylor's Version this Spring semester! Think about all the things Taylor has been up to since we last offered this course in Spring 2024 that we'll cover ✨✨

Through this course students explore rhetorical theories and strategies in a specific popular culture discourse or medium — with music icon Taylor Swift being the focus of the 2024 offerings.

Mr. Zidane Williamson presented his Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) project, "The Rhetoric of Intelligence: Nature, Nurture, and the Construction of Cognitive Authority " at the UCF Summer Research Showcase. His project analyzed 24 authoritative sources within the medical (genetics), educational, and psychiatry disciplines to identify how rhetoric was used in these scholarly discussions to define, justify, or challenge methods of measuring intelligence.

Zidane is a Writing & Rhetoric minor who hopes to go on to study neuroscience. This project allowed him to see how rhetoric is leveraged in scientific research and research discussions relevant to a neuroscience area he's interested in, intelligence.

Dr. Cicchino served as his summer research mentor and was very proud and grateful to connect with him on this project.
