At the UCF Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, we boast an esteemed, diverse and world-renowned faculty who perform cutting-edge research with support from government agencies

and national laboratories. They’ve built strong relationships with industry partners that have led to insightful and enriching learning opportunities, including fellowships, internships and research programs, for students at UCF and beyond. Through our highly ranked programs in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering and biomedical engineering, our faculty ensure that students receive a quality education that instills habits of life-long learning and professional development. We teach our students that the sky is not the limit, and our alumni have gone on to launch very successful careers in the areas of space exploration, additive manufacturing, wearable devices, AI, technology and more. The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is housed within the College of Engineering and Computer Science, one of 13 colleges at UCF. The department is home to the Center for Advanced Turbomachinery and Energy Research, which aims to conduct impactful research in the areas of aviation and power generation. Our faculty also collaborate with other UCF researchers through the Biionix, Renewable Energy and Chemical Transformation, and the Disability, Aging and Technology faculty clusters. We’re also located in sunny Orlando, Florida, near the top theme parks in the world, a major international airport, beautiful beaches and cultural venues such as the Orlando Museum of Art and the Dr. Philips Center for the Performing Arts. As an alumna and now a UCF postdoctoral scholar, Rachel Hytovik ’20 ’24MSAE ’25PhD is helping to define a new frontier in air travel. As part of the team at the HyperSpace Center, she works on breakthroughs in hypersonic propulsion, a technology that, in the next 25 years, could power a flight from New York to London in less than 15 minutes.

What a wonderful MAE Research Day! ✨

We're incredibly proud of all our graduate students; their research work was truly outstanding. Congratulations to this year's Best Poster Award winners: mechanical engineering doctoral students Yeting Sun and Ajoy Kumar Sarker; and biomedical engineering doctoral student Uditha Weerasinghage.
