Say hello to Alexander the Appaloosa! 🐴 This adorable, life-size foal model was hand-painted by our talented faculty member, Dr. Gayle Leith, to make learning more fun and memorable. Instead of a plain white model, Dr. Leith used her creativity to help students practice essential clinical skills and learn about coat colors, markings, and important health considerations for Appaloosas—all at once!

From practicing venipuncture and bandaging to spotting signature features like a white blanket and trademark spots, Alexander is a fantastic teaching companion. Plus, details such as mottled skin and striped hooves help students connect what they see to key clinical lessons, including awareness of conditions such as equine recurrent uveitis and congenital night blindness.

Alexander is just one of Dr. Leith’s amazing foal models, each designed to make veterinary education more interactive and hands-on. Thank you, Dr. Leith, for making our classrooms a more colorful place to learn and grow.
