Meet Emmanuel Osam Duodu, a member of the class of 2024! Emmanuel currently serves as Senior Residence Hall Director at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

"One of the biggest things the program gave me was a better understanding of students and what they may need at different points in their college experience. It helped me become more intentional in meeting students where they are and providing the right support." ~ Emmanuel

Meet Liz Gagalogan, a member of the class of 2021! Liz currently serves as Assistant Co-op Faculty Coordinator at Northeastern University.

"As an Assistant Co-op Faculty Coordinator, I help students navigate the transition from classroom to workplace, and I also teach a course that prepares students for co-op experiences. The program shaped how I approach both: understanding what students need at different stages in their development, and how to design learning experiences that actually meet them there. The connections I made with faculty and peers modeled what thoughtful, student-centered work in higher ed looks like, and that still influences how I show up for students now." ~ Liz

Meet another inspiring member of our alumni community, Mike Hebert (G'19)! Mike currently serves as the Director of Residence Life at Southern Maine Community College.

"The ability to create my own concentration gave me insight into so many valuable areas that I still use in my day-to-day work - budgeting, politicking in higher ed, advising (academic, student group, and otherwise), and empowering marginalized communities through a theory-based lens. The core classes are such a solid foundation, and I've only continued to build on and reference the literature we drew from as I progress through my career." ~ Mike

Meet Joseph Flanagan, a class of 2016 graduate, who currently serves as the Director of CARE and Case Management at Fitchburg State University!

"The HED Program gave me both a systems-level perspective and a student-centered lens. I utilize both every day in my work, and they continue to shape how I show up for students and colleagues in higher education. In my current role, I’ve had the opportunity to establish the Office of CARE & Case Management, which provides the infrastructure for our cross-divisional Community Assistance & Risk Evaluation (CARE) Team, bringing people and resources together to respond to student concerns and support students through challenges. This work has reinforced for me how interconnected higher education is, and how important it is to help both the institution and individual students navigate that complexity." ~ Joseph

Meet Kate Axelsen Foster, a member of the class of 2013, who currently serves as the Director of Career Services at Husson University.

"I was able to work in Residence Life and intern with the University of Maine Career Center during my time in the graduate program. My work experiences and graduate studies connected beautifully, and I found I loved helping students with their short-term and long-term career and professional development. My internship provided me with wonderful mentors, and I was fortunate that my role evolved from a graduate intern to eventually becoming the Assistant Director for Employer Relations and a Career Coach." ~ Kate

Meet Grant McCormack, a proud class of 2016 graduate who now serves as a Senior Academic Advisor at the University of Minnesota's College of Food, Agricultural, and Natural Resource Sciences!

"UMaine was the best opportunity I had to combine my academic interests in Higher Education with actual hands-on experience. Academic Advisors do a little bit of everything, and I definitely learned how to think more critically and confidently from the assistantship and internship experiences. That, and the faculty tied all of our learning to real-world situations, which helped me easily connect the curriculum to my professional career." ~ Grant
