UW-Oshkosh School of Education and Human Services

UW-Oshkosh School of Education and Human Services Since 1871, UWO has been a leader in education. SOEHS prepares the next generation of professional leaders in education, human services and counseling.

This year, we mark the 140th anniversary of the UW Oshkosh College of Education and Human Services (COEHS)! Throughout our history, there have been many changes – from college name and logo changes to new and improved methods of teacher education. However, our goal has always been the same: to educate the people who will set the pace for teaching, education reform and social change in an increasingly diverse environment.

Meet Kaelyn Dahlke, a soon-to-be educator whose time at UW Oshkosh has been shaped by the generosity behind this scholarship.

Paying her own way through college wasn't easy, but it's something Kaelyn set out to do — and she's on track to graduate completely debt-free. That accomplishment didn't just ease the financial pressure; it gave her a deeper sense of what she's capable of.

"This experience has strengthened my belief in my own potential and encouraged me to keep pursuing my dreams," she says. "It reminded me that my hard work matters and that I'm capable of more."

For Kaelyn, that mindset is exactly what she hopes to carry into her own classroom one day — showing her future students that persistence pays off, and that believing in yourself is often the first step toward reaching your goals.
"This experience has strengthened my belief in my own potential and encouraged me to keep pursuing my dreams. It reminded me that my hard work matters and that I'm capable of more."

Meet Katelyn Scannell ,a soon-to-be educator whose time at UW Oshkosh has been shaped by the generosity behind this scholarship.

This support has lifted more than just the financial weight of tuition, books, and classroom materials — it's given her the room to focus on coursework and field experiences instead of constantly worrying about money. "It has given me confidence, encouragement, and the opportunity to focus on becoming the educator I aspire to be," she says.

But the impact goes deeper than dollars. For Katelyn, the scholarship is proof that others believe in her potential to make a real difference in the classroom. That belief pushes her to work hard, give back to her community, and build a classroom where every student feels supported and welcome.

"This scholarship has given me more than financial support — it has given me confidence, encouragement, and the opportunity to focus on becoming the educator I aspire to be. I hope to honor this investment by making a lasting difference in the lives of my future students."

Meet Desmond Walker, a soon-to-be first-year teacher whose final year at UW-Oshkosh looks a lot different thanks to Titans Day of Giving.

Desmond is a recipient of both the Robert McCoy and Albee, Jane Ives Scholarships, support that's lifted a real financial weight off his shoulders as he finishes his degree.

"Students already have enough to worry about," he says. "Knowing your campus and community are behind you when you're willing to work hard is incredibly encouraging."

His path to the classroom started back in high school, watching teachers and coaches shape the people around him in ways that stuck. That's when he knew: education was where he wanted to do the same for others. Through the UWO School of Education, he's had the space to grow, stumble, and come out the other side ready — genuinely excited — to lead his own classroom.

"Great teachers aren't defined by flawless lesson plans, but by their ability to touch their students' hearts and point them toward a love greater than themselves." — Desmond Walker.

When donors give to the School of Education and Human Services on Titans Day of Giving, this is exactly the kind of impact they're making possible.

For Lily Barker, this scholarship has meant a lot more than help with tuition — though that's certainly part of it. It's covered textbooks, classroom materials, and other costs that add up fast, which has let her focus on what really matters: her coursework, her field experiences, and becoming the teacher she wants to be, without constantly worrying about how to pay for it all.

Lily says the real impact goes deeper than the financial relief. Knowing that people believe in her future as an educator — enough to invest in it — has pushed her to keep going, even when things get hard. She's studying Special Education Cross-Categorical, and her goal is simple but powerful: to build classrooms where every student, especially those with diverse learning needs, feels like they belong and can succeed.

"Receiving this scholarship has been more than financial support — it has been a reminder that others believe in my dream of becoming a teacher. That encouragement motivates me every day to work hard and make a positive impact in the lives of my future students."
— Lily Barker

Did you know $80,000 in scholarships are awarded every year through UW-Oshkosh's School of Education and Human Services?

For alot students, financial support can be the deciding factor in choosing where to pursue their degree. The cost of higher education is a real and imperative concern — and UW-Oshkosh takes that seriously.
SOEHS recognizes that cost should never be the barrier standing between a driven individual and their future. That's why the school has built a robust financial support system that includes merit-based scholarships, need-based grants, and departmental awards available to students across every program within the school.
