UW-Oshkosh School of Education and Human Services

UW-Oshkosh School of Education and Human Services Since 1871, UWO has been a leader in education. SOEHS prepares the next generation of professional leaders in education, human services and counseling.

This year, we mark the 140th anniversary of the UW Oshkosh College of Education and Human Services (COEHS)! Throughout our history, there have been many changes – from college name and logo changes to new and improved methods of teacher education. However, our goal has always been the same: to educate the people who will set the pace for teaching, education reform and social change in an increasingly diverse environment.

Did you know?

Students in the UW-Oshkosh's teacher education program will end up completing 150 hours within the K-12 classrooms before the beginning of their student teaching experience.

Since we prepare our students earlier, this will allow our educators to work 1 on 1 with students as well as working side by side with mentors and teachers. Through SOEHS's commitment to Learn, Teach, and Inspire, students then graduate ready and prepared to make an amazing impact on the next generation of learners

A fun and insightful morning in the Elementary & Middle School Education program! 🍎📚

Current student teachers returned to campus to share their student teaching experiences with students in EDU 412 who will begin their placements this fall. From answering questions to offering advice and encouragement, it was a valuable conversation filled with real experiences and helpful tips for the next group of future educators. 😊

🎓 Faculty Friday Spotlight

Meet Kimberly Oamek, Assistant Professor at UW–Oshkosh! This is her 4th year at UWO, where she teaches in the Elementary & Middle School Education and MS in Education programs.

After years teaching in public schools in California and Wisconsin, Kimberly discovered a passion for working with preservice teachers during her doctoral studies. She loves being part of SOEHS because it allows her to prepare future educators while staying closely connected to K–12 public schools.

What does she enjoy most about UWO? The students—hands down. She says UWO education students are the best in the state: dedicated, supportive, always ready to grow, and guaranteed to make her laugh.

🌱 Fun fact: She’s a plant lover with 35+ houseplants between her home and office!
📍 Favorite spot on campus: The new CETL space in Sage—a true teachers’ lounge.

Chris Stratton, Ph.D. is advancing research that supports future physical educators and inclusive sport communities.

His primary research focuses on preparing future physical education teachers to confidently and effectively deliver Outdoor Adventure Education. By examining the pedagogies that help preservice teachers feel both competent and prepared to teach high-perceived-risk activities commonly found in adventure education programs, Dr. Stratton’s work supports safer, more effective teaching outdoors. 📚🌲

In addition, his recent research includes interviewing coaches in the Wisconsin Adapted Sports League to better understand how they build team cohesion among athletes with special needs — helping guide inclusive practices and stronger team environments. 🤝🏆
