This Titans Day of Giving, meet Brendan Max, a finance and economics graduate of UW Oshkosh whose journey was shaped by the support of donors through scholarships from the School of Business.

For Brendan, that support meant more than covered tuition β€” it meant the freedom to fully focus on his studies. It gave him the space to see that the hard work he was putting in the classroom was paying off, both academically and financially.

But beyond the financial support, this scholarship carries something deeper for him. It reflects the experience he had at UWO, especially within the finance and economics departments β€” and it gave him the confidence to pursue competitive internship and post-graduation opportunities. "It allowed me to go about my studies with the utmost confidence," he says.

That confidence has carried him forward. As a UWO grad now working as an Investment Banking Analyst, Brendan credits these scholarships with playing a real role in that transition β€” proof that the standards he held himself to in school continue to pay off in his career.

Stories like Brendan's are exactly why Titans Day of Giving matters β€” every gift helps a Titan believe a little more in what they're capable of.

This Titans Day of Giving, meet Majeed Abbara, a Finance and Accounting student at UW Oshkosh whose time here has been shaped by the generosity of donors through the James Moynihan, Jr. Business & Entrepreneurial Scholarship.

For Majeed, this support meant more time β€” time to fully invest in the student organizations he's passionate about. As a board member for two different organizations, that extra bandwidth has let him bring more quality and care into the campus events he helps create.

But beyond the practical impact, this scholarship carries something deeper for him. "This scholarship to me is a badge of honor," he says. Being chosen among many strong applicants gave him more than recognition β€” it gave him confidence in his own ideas and abilities, and proof that those ideas could one day become reality.

Stories like Majeed's are exactly why Titans Day of Giving matters β€” every gift helps a Titan believe a little more in what they're capable of.
"He who treads softly travels far."

A Critical Thinking Framework for Corrections Officers

Policy manuals can't cover every scenario an officer faces on the floor β€” and that's exactly the challenge that sparked this project.
The Winnebago County Sheriff's Department reached out to UW Oshkosh with a real problem: their new corrections officers have policy and training in place, but inmates present an endless variety of situations every single day.

Steve Schilhabel took on that challenge. Through a systematic literature review, he built a decision-making framework grounded in reason, logic, and critical thinking β€” designed to help officers navigate. The goal: give new officers a repeatable mental process they can apply to situations no manual could ever predict.

This training bridges the gap between academic research and the realities of the corrections floor, equipping officers with tools to reason through pressure, uncertainty, and fast-moving decisions with clarity and confidence.

Every year, our Business students walk across the stage ready to take on the real world β€” armed with technical skills, but also confidence, mentorship, and opportunities that don't come free. Scholarships, case competition travel, professional certification support, career treks, guest speaker programs β€” these are the things that turn good students into great accountants, marketers, entrepreneurs, analysts, and business leaders.

None of it happens without you.

This Titans Day of Giving, we're asking alumni, friends, and fellow Titans to rally behind the School of Business. Whether it's $10 or $1,000, your gift helps:

-Fund scholarships for students balancing school, work, and family
- Bring real-world professionals into the classroom
- Send students to competitions and conferences that open doors to their first job
- Support hands-on learning across every discipline β€” accounting, finance, marketing, management, and more

We just wrapped up hosting EAA guests from all over the world here at the UW-Oshkosh School of Business, and honestly, it was a blast. UW–Oshkosh is elite β€” and the numbers prove it. We ranked #3 in the nation among medium-sized CPA programs in first-time pass rates, per the NASBA 2024 Edition report (the most current report). That's top 10 performance on a national stage. Behind this achievement are students who put in countless hours of studying and pushing through tough material. The CPA Exam is one of the most challenging professional exams in the country, and our students met that challenge. A special thanks to professors like Kazeem Akinyele, Jill Halverson, Coreen Thomas, and so many more whose dedication in the classroom and investment in student success make results like these possible. The relationship between our faculty and students is what sets UW–Oshkosh apart. GO TITANS!!!
