Join us for a day of fun at Remixx (8386 WI-76 Suite B, Neenah, WI 54956)—food, drinks, bingo, and a drag show featuring Airin Skye, Jessica B, and emcee Miss Mimi Jackson! The $20 entry fee gets you a bingo card and a complimentary beverage. Proceeds go towards the UW Oshkosh and UW Oshkosh LGBTQ Resource Center Pride Scholarship.

Everyone ages 18+ is welcome! So spread the word and get your dollar bills ready. Who knows, you might win a few rounds of bingo while you’re at it!

Join us for an evening with The New York Times best-selling author of The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness, Michelle Alexander.

She will talk about her work on breaking the silence about racial injustice in the modern legal system to reveal how mass incarceration has come to replace segregation. The conversation will be a moderated Q&A by our own Dr. Damira Grady, Associate Vice Chancellor for Inclusive Excellence and University Diversity Officer.

In celebration of TransAction Week, join us for a showing of the 2020 documentary, Disclosure, which examines Hollywood's depiction of transgender people and the impact it's left on both the transgender community and American culture. Following the screening, a panel will discuss their experiences of misrepresentation and trans celebration.

As we wrap up , we want to spotlight just a few women who have influenced history in the state of Wisconsin.

Dr. Fannie Hicklin
In 1964, Hicklin became the first African American faculty member at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater by accepting a theater professor position, and in 1991, she became the first African American president of the Wisconsin Historical Society’s Board of Curators.

Milly Zantow
Zantow helped write Wisconsin’s first mandatory state recycling law, which was passed in 1990. She also developed the system that is now used worldwide to identify and separate the seven different types of plastic for recycling.

Ardie Clark Halyard
She and her husband opened the first African American-owned S&L—Columbia Savings and Loan—with just a ten-dollar bill. This Milwaukee establishment helped many African Americans secure home loans free from discrimination based on race and thus have the same home-owning opportunities as whites.

Meet Shouacua Xiong (She/Her/Hers)!

Shouacua is a Human Services/Leadership and Communication Studies student. She is a Women’s Center intern, Student Support Services Learning Group Leader, and part of the Hmong Student Union.

When asked what it means to “belong,” she responded: “I think my idea of belonging has many moving parts. Belonging means that I not only get to have a seat at the table, but I am allowed to join in on the conversation and be listened to and understood, and I have enough room to pull up another chair next to me for someone else to get the same opportunity. I would never feel like I truly belonged if I wasn’t given space, being heard, and actively making room to allow others to speak as well.”
