Desmond Walker is preparing to lead a classroom of his own, and scholarships are helping him get there with a little less weight on his shoulders. 💛

Titans Day of Giving is coming up Sept. 15! It’s a day for our Titan community to come together and create more opportunities for students like Desmond to focus on what’s ahead.

Meet Desmond Walker, a soon-to-be first-year teacher whose final year at UW-Oshkosh looks a lot different thanks to Titans Day of Giving.

Desmond is a recipient of both the Robert McCoy and Albee, Jane Ives Scholarships, support that's lifted a real financial weight off his shoulders as he finishes his degree.

"Students already have enough to worry about," he says. "Knowing your campus and community are behind you when you're willing to work hard is incredibly encouraging."

His path to the classroom started back in high school, watching teachers and coaches shape the people around him in ways that stuck. That's when he knew: education was where he wanted to do the same for others. Through the UWO School of Education, he's had the space to grow, stumble, and come out the other side ready — genuinely excited — to lead his own classroom.

"Great teachers aren't defined by flawless lesson plans, but by their ability to touch their students' hearts and point them toward a love greater than themselves." — Desmond Walker.

A great race weekend is about more than miles. It is about people showing up for one another. 💛

That is why UWO loves being part of Community First Fox Cities Marathon. This year, Titans will be on the course and alongside it, running, making music, handing out water and bringing plenty of school spirit. Even Clash is lacing up for the Kids Fun Run. 💛

Look for UWO throughout Community First Fox Cities Marathon Weekend, Sept. 18 through 20.

Real opportunities. Real partners. Real experience.

This eight week MESH Up pilot initiative with FTI. gave UW–Oshkosh students the opportunity to apply their STEM education in meaningful ways while bringing new ideas to an industry partner.

The video highlights one participant’s experience, while the broader MESH Up initiative reaches beyond AI to create space for interdisciplinary collaboration, technology and innovation.

This is what becomes possible when our students, faculty and community partners build something together. 💛

A UW–Oshkosh education should remain within reach for Wisconsin students and families.

Yesterday, UWO was proud to join Universities of Wisconsin leaders and students in advocating for investments that would keep tuition predictable and provide additional financial support for students who work while earning their degrees.

Affordable access to a high quality education strengthens our students, our communities and Wisconsin’s future. 💛

This month, Healthcare Forward brought together leaders from healthcare, education, government and workforce development to focus on a shared challenge: how Wisconsin can strengthen its healthcare talent pipeline while expanding access and preparing for a rapidly changing healthcare environment.

Hosted by the NEW Healthcare Alliance in partnership with UW–Oshkosh, the symposium reflected the power of regional collaboration.

At UWO, that work spans nursing, health professions and STEM and is strengthened by partnerships that connect students, employers and communities.

The conversation reinforced an important role for UWO—not only preparing the professionals Wisconsin needs, but helping bring partners together around workforce, rural access and innovation.
